Heated Chiller

The Heated Chiller is a newly developed, highly integrated component, tailored to meet the complex thermal demands of modern electric vehicles.

Our newly developed high voltage heater combines the advantages of the following components and replaces them: a chiller, a battery heater and a refrigerant heater. It connects and serves both coolant and refrigerant heating circle and offers one holistic thermal management. 

With the Heated Chiller, Webasto ensures enlarged comfort for electric vehicles for the future; while at the same time reducing costs, complexity, weight, installation space and CO2 emission.

Simplified vehicle architecture

With deep understanding of vehicle architecture and system integration, Webasto has developed this innovation alongside customer demands, drawing from its extensive experience in thermal management and its batteries competence. With the Heated Chiller, passenger comfort is ensured even in extreme temperatures and battery lifetime can be extended while saving costs and reducing complexity in the whole vehicle architecture.

Next Generation Coolant 

For systems that demand particularly high heating performance, Webasto’s High Voltage Heaters (HVH) deliver an ideal solution: The powerful heating system for hybrid and electric vehicles tempers both the vehicle cabin and the batteries.

With its Next Generation Coolant Heater, Webasto is launching an electric heating system built on a platform basis, allowing it to be flexibly adapted to meet different customer requirements.

 

It is based on innovative heating technology that is integrated into an installation-space-optimized heat exchanger and is suitable for both 400- and 800-volt vehicle architectures. Its heat output is scalable between three, six and nine kilowatts. Webasto’s Next Generation Coolant Heater moreover facilitates a flexible interface with the customer’s vehicle architecture, irrespective of voltage and heat output. By taking a modular approach we are able to achieve a high level of production automation, offering excellent flexibility in terms of the higher volumes we can manufacture.

Sustainability 

The Heated Chiller and the Next Generation Coolant Heater are a diversification of our HVH portfolio. The platform concepts are specifically designed to meet customers’ increasingly tight installation space constraints and save both weight and raw materials.

Sustainable materials for the production of high-voltage heating systems

The Heated Chiller combines three vehicle components (chiller, battery heater, interior heater) into one unit, optimizing costs while reducing weight and saving installation space.

 

The Next Generation Coolant Heater reduces its aluminum content by almost 50 percent compared to the HVH 10 kW Variant, ensuring a weight reduction of 30 percent. 

 

Just like the HVH family, both the Next Generation Coolant Heater and the Heated Chiller are free from rare earth materials, ensuring sustainability and resource efficiency.

Success story continues 

Webasto has been producing high-voltage coolant heaters in series since 2015 and the first 800-volt coolant heater - the HVH 100 - since 2019.

 

The high-voltage heater delivers up to 10 kilowatts of heating power with an efficiency of over 95 percent. Its successor, the HVH 100 Compact, offers the same output with a smaller size and lower weight. Our portfolio also includes the HVH 120, a powerful solution especially for commercial vehicles.

 

The device delivers a heating output of up to 12 kilowatts.
